Gas Safety

We are required by law to carry out annual gas safety checks on the appliances contained within your home.

These checks are always carried out by a suitably qualified Gas Safe Registered engineer. We will post of copy of any checks completed to you within 28 days of completion.

It’s vitally important that you allow us access to your home to complete your annual gas safety check. Refusing access is a breach of your tenancy agreement and may result in further (legal) action if prompt arrangements cannot be made.

PH Jones are currently employed by Unity to carry out any safety checks and gas repairs within your home. If your Annual Gas Service is due, you can contact them directly to book an appointment for this on 01928 570370 or email them at unityhousing@phjones.com . If you need to report a gas repair, please continue to report these to our customer services team who can be contacted on 0113 200 7700 or Customerservices@unityha.co.uk .

What should I do if I smell gas?

*IF YOU THINK YOU SMELL GAS IN YOUR HOME, PLEASE CALL THE NATIONAL GRID GAS EMERGENCY CENTRE ON 0800 111 999.

To make sure you’re safe until an engineer can attend to investigate:
1. Turn off the gas at the meter.
2. Open the all windows and doors to ventilate.
3. Put out any naked flames
4. Do not use any electrical switches (light switches and plug sockets) until advised it’s safe to do so.

Gas safety tips
1. Make sure you know where your gas mater is located and how to turn it off in the event of an emergency.
2. Never cover any gas burning appliances or block any air vents used to ventilate said appliances.
3. Never block or cover outside flues.
4. If you believe a gas appliance you have is not working properly, do not use it!
